The six-day mission is organized by the UK Agricultural and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB) with the support of the Department of International Trade (DIT) in Mexico to help promote British pork in this critical market.
During the visit, which begins July 5, delegates from the Mexican livestock sector will visit farms, meat processing plants, supermarkets and a leading specialist in pig breeding and genetics.
The program will also include a day at the Great Yorkshire Show, one of the largest agricultural events, which will showcase the achievements of the UK farmers, food and rural areas, where the group will have the opportunity to meet with several stakeholders from the agricultural sector.
The delegation includes veterinarians from the state of Jalisco, an important retailer from the north of the country, and the Mexican media, which will have the opportunity to see firsthand the whole process of pork production from farm to fork.
Susan Morris, AHDB senior export manager, said the visit was an incredible opportunity to showcase British pork to influential industry experts in the Mexican market.
“This is a fantastic opportunity to emphasize the quality of our product and to emphasize the high well-being of our animals, strict control over the use of antibiotics, the world's leading quality assurance schemes and, of course, the exceptional taste and texture of our pork.
In addition to visiting stores and farms, we will also provide an overview of our work in the field of genetics for breeding purposes and share best practices with our visitors, ”said a senior manager of the UK Agriculture and Horticulture Development Council.
