Current tomato prices in Ukraine are on average 40% higher than they were in April last year.
According to analysts of the Ukrainian Fruit and Vegetable Association (UPOA), there are no prerequisites for a tangible decrease in product prices. Industry experts argue their position with a limited supply of tomatoes in Ukrainian markets.
Due to the seasonal factor, the wholesale supply of tomatoes from Turkey is gradually being cut, while domestic plants are just starting to start sampling in greenhouses. It is too early to wait for a massive sampling of tomatoes from local greenhouses. The fall in tomato prices in Ukraine per week amounted to only 4-8%. Today, Turkish tomatoes can be bought on the market at 50-52 UAH / kg ($ 1.87-1.94 per kg), and prices for products of local greenhouse cultivation reach 60 UAH / kg ($ 2.24 per kg).
According to weather forecasts, cold and cloudy weather will continue in the near future. Given weather conditions, industry experts say that there is no reason to hope for the rapid ripening of tomatoes in greenhouses. The selection of vegetables from Ukrainian greenhouses will not be increased. Consequently, the high price of tomatoes in the country will continue, and before Easter, it may even begin to grow.Share
