In Slovakia, four hundred and seventy kilometers from the Hungarian border, a pig died as a result of an African plague virus attack.
It is known that the animal was part of the few livestock assets of one of the Slovak farmers, who kept four pigs in his household.
Presumably, the misfortune came to the farmer’s compound from Hungary, which is considered to be potentially dangerous for the African swine fever since the spring of 2018.
It is known that to date, at least eight hundred and seventy foci of ASF virus infection have been recorded in Hungary. The main distributors of the disease are wild boars.
That the Slovak pig died as a result of ASF. Laboratory tests were confirmed by PCR. The infected pig was destroyed - as were its household goods, which automatically fell into the high-risk zone.
Information about the infection and extermination of the pig was sent to the office of the World Organization for Animal Health. It will not be superfluous to add that Slovakia is now considered the twelfth country in the list of defeat of European countries by ASF virus.
