Greenhouse plants in Ukraine are gradually lowering the price of tomatoes. Today, they still cost an average of 47% more than they did on the same date in 2018, EastFruit experts say.
If even in the first days of last week, traders could sell their locally grown goods at 60-64 UAH / kg ($ 2.25-2.4 / kg), then as the weekend approached, they began to give customers discounts.
This behavior can be explained by both an increase in the influx of foreign goods and a gradual increase in the sample in domestic greenhouses. Thus, today the prices for tomatoes of a local producer are in the range of 53-55 UAH / kg ($ 1.99-2.07 / kg), which is on average 12% less than in the first days of the past week.According to market players, on the eve of Easter celebrations, importers brought in large consignments of tomatoes from Turkey and Poland. Against the background of already low demand, this led to an even greater drop in their value.
In the last days of the working week, imported tomato could be found even at a price of 30 UAH / kg ($ 1.13 / kg), which is 30% less than at the end of the previous week.According to the forecasts of market operators, the cost of tomatoes in Ukraine this week may decrease even more, as samples of vegetables from local greenhouses continue to grow.
