Since the beginning of this week, the fall in the cost of tomatoes has recovered in Ukrainian markets, EastFruit project experts report.
Nowadays, almost all regions of Ukraine are covered by tomato harvesting amid a rather low demand for the product. This leads to the need for further cuts in tomato prices.
Currently, tomatoes grown indoors are sold at 22-24 UAH / kg (0.83-0.91 dollars / kg), which is 8% less than last week. Vegetables sold from summer greenhouses are offered at a price of 15-18 UAH / kg (0.57-0.68 dollars / kg).
According to project experts, the entry of large quantities of vegetables from summer greenhouses onto the market led to a drop in product prices throughout Ukraine. According to representatives of greenhouse farms, they were forced to lower the price of the product in order to sell it faster and prevent a large accumulation of unsold vegetables in storage.
It is noteworthy that current tomato prices have now fallen below the 2018 figures. According to EastFruit analysts, in 2018 open ground tomatoes in Ukraine were sold at prices 27% higher than now, and the price of greenhouse vegetables was on average 6% higher than now.
