Drip irrigation - This is a hydroponic technique, which largely depends on the upper controlled flow of the nutrient solution. Water slowly seeps out of the bottles, keeping the soil moist without oversaturated it.
The most common houseplants came from the tropics. Do you know that most home plants have their “roots” in the tropics or subtropics? They are used to growing under the canopy of tall trees, which explains why they acclimatize to life so well under the shade of the roof in your house.
Drip irrigation for indoor plants from a plastic bottle:
- Drill a hole with a diameter of 5 mm in the lid of a plastic water bottle.
- Fill the bottle with water.
- Screw the cap on the bottle tightly.
- Dig a small hole in the soil of a houseplant.
- Insert the water bottle upside down into the hole.
Water will slowly flow over time, keeping the plant well irrigated.
Another way to water with a bottle
You will need liter bottles and thick laces.
Algorithm of actions:
- Clean and rinse the bottles.
- Make two small round holes above and below parallel to each other.
- Insert the string into the bottle.
- Fill the bottle with water.
- Lay the bottle upright on the soil next to the plants.
- Lay the loose ends of the laces side by side. Water will flow to the plants constantly and evenly.
Homemade Self-Irrigation System for Indoor Plants
Materials:
- rags of cotton fabric;
- paper clips;
- pan;
- a small stool.
Algorithm of actions:
- Gather your houseplants in the place where they are usually located. Take an old T-shirt made of 100% cotton and cut it into long thin strips.
- Tie a paper clip to one end of each fabric strip.
- Fill the pan with water and place it on a stool to raise water above the level of the plants. Gather plants around a pot of water.
- Place the end of a tissue paper clip in a pot of water. Take the other end and, using your finger, immerse it about 3-4 cm into the soil of each plant.
- When you have placed the rags in each plant, make sure that the line of the cord from the pan to the pot goes in a completely downward slope.
Sansevieria (or mother-in-law's tongue) does not need frequent watering. You can water it every 3-5 weeks, depending on the time of year. This plant is great for people who travel or forget to water their plants.
Create a mini greenhouse
- Choose a clear, plastic bag large enough to fit your indoor plant. The bag will catch the moisture secreted by the plants. This moisture will then drip back onto the plants, watering them.
- Place a damp towel on the bottom of the bag and lay the plants on top. The towel will help the plants retain moisture and prevent the soil from drying out too much. Just lay as many plants on top of the towel as you can fit. Leaves should only slightly touch each other.
- Tie a bagholding as much air as possible inside.
- Keep plants away from direct sunlight. You can keep them indoors or outdoors, but make sure they are out of direct sunlight.
Water Bottle Making
Follow these steps:
- Take out the glass bottle with a narrow neck. A bottle of wine is perfect.
- Fill the bottle with water and turn it upside down. Do not fill it completely; it’s just enough to the place where the neck begins.
- Press the neck of the bottle into the soil.
Now you can build drop watering for home plants yourself. Choose one of the ways and show your skills.
