Scientists at the Northeastern Federal University report a real breakthrough in the history of the country that they made in Yakutia. We are talking about the blood of a foal, which in the conditions of permafrost spent at least 42 thousand years in ice.
The circumstances of the foal’s body storage were favorable for researchers, and the blood in the heart of the animal, which had lain in the ice for tens of thousands of years, reached the Yakut researchers in a liquid state. This gives scientists hope for the opportunity to clone the horses that inhabited the region during the ice age.
Yakut researchers emphasize that in the entire history of science there has not yet been described such a case when it was possible to remove liquid blood samples from the remains of dead animals from ancient times to the present.According to Yakut scientists, they were lucky: the blood in the heart of the prehistoric foal was preserved in almost perfect condition, as well as the muscle tissue that lay in the ice and remained red. It was not difficult for scientists to determine that the foal was of a bay color with a mane and tail of black color: shreds of wool were preserved on the animal's head, limbs, and in individual sections of the body.
Researchers at Northeastern University intend to engage in cloning a young skate, who is a contemporary of mammoths. And in the event that the experiment is successful, it will be possible to restore the number of horses that inhabited Alaska and Siberia during the ice age.
