Apricot prices continue to fall in Ukrainian markets. Over the past week, they have decreased by 21%, as reported by specialists of the Ukrainian Fruit and Vegetable Organization (UPOA).
The decrease in product prices was due to the entry of locally grown fruits on the Ukrainian market. If a few weeks earlier all apricots went on sale from other countries, now there is more and more domestic product.
Competition with fruits from Turkey, Greece, and Spain is getting tougher every day, director of development of the UPRA Ekaterina Zvereva commented on the situation.
Compared to 2018, this year apricots are more expensive. At the end of the third week of June, their price is 22 UAH / kg ($ 0.84), while at the same date last year it was at the level of 12 UAH / kg ($ 0.46).
According to UPOA analyst Semyon Kravchenko, the high price of apricots this year is also due to the fact that this year, due to weather conditions, these fruits ripen with a delay.
Apricot producers opened the season a few weeks later than in 2018. But producers from the eastern and central regions of the country have already begun to enter the Ukrainian market, which will lead to a gradual and steady decline in the prices of these fruits.
