A new variety has been created at the Amur Research Institute of Soybeans, which is highly resistant to waterlogging of the soil.
In the Amur region, floods and floods are observed more often. In this situation, farmers are forced to choose varieties and crops that can grow, develop and produce high yields in such conditions, the research institute says.
Valentina Sinegovskaya, chief researcher at the Plant Physiology Laboratory, spoke about the new soybean variety. According to her, he perfectly tolerates excess moisture. At the experimental site, soybean crops stood in water for 1 month.
Soy not only did not die, but also showed a yield of 15 g / ha. Plants of other varieties that participated in the experiment fell victim to water. According to Sinegovskaya, scientists plan to continue breeding varieties with increased resistance to excessive rainfall and floods.
Soya is a strategic culture for the Amur Region, local authorities say. The governor of the region, Vasily Orlov, is sure that the region has great potential in this matter, because there is a huge Chinese market nearby, which is the largest consumer of food in the world.
China is reorienting itself from the US market to purchasing in other countries, including Russia. But so far, Russia does not produce such a quantity of products. Scientists and farmers are faced with the question of increasing sown areas and improving varieties.
According to the First Deputy Minister of Agriculture Dzhambulat Khatuov, as much attention as possible should be paid to selection and seed production, adhere to agricultural technology and not to forget about scientifically based crop rotation.
