As part of the Poznan for the Bees program, more city apiaries will be built in Poznan (Poland). Apiaries should appear in the IPC depot and in the forests near Marcelina and Dembina.
According to the Poznan City Council, a letter of intent regarding the implementation of the Poznan for the Bees program was signed by the Deputy Mayor of Poznan, Katarzyna Kezek-Koperska, President of the Board of the Municipal Transport Company Wojciech Tulibacki and Director of the Poznan Forest Department Mechislav Bransky.
Katarzyna Kierzek-Koperskaya said that, within the framework of the Poznan for the Bees campaign, among other things, flower meadows and honey gardens will be created. Direct speech: “We have our apiaries and city honey. When caring for urban greenery, we do not take any measures harmful to bees.
We know how important education and responsibility are in relation to the phenomenon of endangered bees. Now the activities on these beneficial insects will be extended to other areas, ”she said.
Under the agreement, new hives can be installed in the IPC depot on Karcha, Pust and Franovo streets. The program will also be promoted in public transport. The president of the board of the municipal communications company noted that "apiaries in the depot are completely new."
Bees have the ability to detect mines and other explosives by smell. Due to this, they are in the "official service" at the Pentagon.
City apiaries will also be located in areas managed by the Poznan Forest Plant - the Marcelinsky Forest and the forest on Ku Debenie Street. Mieczyslaw Brodsky, director of the Poznan Forest Plant, noted that the forest is a natural environment for bees, and these insects, he added, “are the basis of our existence.”
The Poznan magistrate recalled that hives in Poznan forests and warehouses are not the first city apiaries. Six are already in the Poznan Citadel. The bees that live there have already begun to produce honey.
Direct speech: “This is proof that these beneficial insects can function in the city, and Poznan is free from pesticides and other deadly agents,” the justice of the peace emphasized.
Care for city apiaries was proposed by the Provincial Beekeeping Association in Poznan.
